Early June and golf diaries are now full to the brim with club and county competitions. Over the weekend of 30 th /31 st May, the Cumbria Golf Partnership launched its Cumbria Futures Golf Academy Open Talent Assessment days (previously known as Club & Coach). This is a fantastic opportunity for juniors aged 7 to 15 to be assessed by the Academy coaches for their golfing ability together with a quick chat about their golfing aspirations. For full details click on Cumbria Futures link opposite.

Congratulations to 15 year old Seb Crookall-Nixon who has been selected by the EGU to represent England in the annual Young Masters Championship this year being held on the Albatross Course at the Golf National, near Paris in July. The CGP sends him best wishes the very best of luck.

The first official National Skills Challenge of 2009 is now complete with an incredible 1,175 juniors taking part and the second Challenge is well underway.  If your club has not signed up or if you would like further information go to www.getintogolf.org or contact Jo Tinsley.

The England Golf Partnership (EGP) would like to highlight to clubs and counties a number of funding programmes available through Sport England. Sport England is focusing investment on organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.  In addition to investment through the EGP, Sport England has launched funding programmes which are open to both clubs and counties. The funding programmes are:  Small Grants; Sportsmatch;  Innovation Fund;  Rural Communities;  and Sustainable Facilities Fund. In 2008, the Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs (CUGC); Cumbria Ladies County Golf Association (CLCGA) together with representatives from the North East/West PGA; English Golf Union (EGU)/English Women's Golf Association(EWGA); Golf Foundation and Cumbria Sport joined together to form the Cumbria Golf Partnership (CGP).

2009 onward: The Partnership will see an exciting approach to the development of the game in Cumbria as local knowledge; experience and resources are combined and shared by local golfing organisations working together as a team.

Through this joint approach Golf in Cumbria has greater potential to draw in external support in particular through Sport England and Cumbria Sport. This approach is integral to England Golf Partnership's vision to “Grow the game” and The English Golf Union's vision to make England the world's leading golf nation by 2020.

The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women's Golf Association (EWGA) along with Sport England have allocated The Cumbria Golf Partnership a minimum of £54,500 to devise and implement a structured development plan for golf in Cumbria over the next 3 years. The plan consisting of three main sections ‘Start', ‘Stay' and ‘Succeed' will cover all aspects of the game from grassroots participation through to elite county squad players.

For the next period of funding ... 2009 to 2013. Confirmation: England Golf awarded £12.8 million Sport England grant.

England Golf has welcomed the award of a £12.8 million grant by Sport England which will be used to develop the sport over the next four years (2009-13). The grant is a significant increase on the £8.2 million awarded for the previous period and together with club and coaching funding already secured means that more than £14 million will be available to support development programmes at every level of the game.
