Cumbria Futures Golf Academy

Gary Watson in full assessment

All the Open Talent Assessments have now taken place and all Coaches agreed that the standard achieved by some of the juniors are at is extremely high, which is extremely encouraging for the future of Cumbria Golf. Over 115 juniors were assessed over the 3 days and as much as the CGP would like to be able to accept all, unfortunately, we cannot. However it isn't all bad news, the unsuccessful candidates are being invited back in either February/March 2010 (date to be confirmed) for a re-assessment to see if they are ready to move into the training squad. All parents of the squad members are being invited to a presentation by Stuart Armstrong, Coaching & Talent Pathways, England Golf Partnership at Kendal Golf Club on Wednesday 7th October 2009.

The Next 4 Years

A recent Press Release from the England Golf Partnership outlines the funding available for County Golf Partnerships for the next 4 years. It reads:

England GolfThe England Golf Partnership (EGP) has now notified all County Golf Partnerships (CGPs) the available funding to support their development work for the next four years, 2009 to 2013.

Through the Whole Sport Plan for Golf, the EGP has been awarded £12.85 million by Sport England to invest in grass roots golf and a significant amount of this investment been allocated to CGPs.

Over £1.8 million has been assigned to CGPs over the next four years specifically to support the implementation of each Partnership's development plan and the appointment of County Development Officers to support the delivery of this activity. Combined with monies obtainable through the EGP Coach Development and Club & Coach initiatives a total of almost £4 million is available for CGPs to access.

CGPs are fundamental to Golf's ‘Grow the Game' vision and this major funding award highlights the importance placed on their role by the EGP and Sport England.

The funding will support those CGP activities that will ultimately contribute to the specific outcomes identified within the Golf's Whole Sport Plan 2009 to 2013.

There are currently 31 partnerships in England . Details of their activity, achievements and individual websites can be found on the EGP website
